Clean eating is very popular right now. More and more people want to eat more natural, less processed food. In this interview, our nutritionist Ulrike Moessner explains why clean eating is so important to so many people and how Aramark’s foodboost program can help you to eat more natural food.
Why does clean eating appeal to so many people?
Over the course of many discussions and nutrition counseling sessions, I have determined that nowadays more people think about what they’re eating and what they personally need to give them enough energy for the stress of daily life. Many have realized that nutrition plays an important role in this.
What exactly is clean eating?
Clean eating means eating natural, fresh food and avoiding processed products that are high in fat, salt and sugar. It involves plating up a good portion of fruits and vegetables, preferably regional and seasonal. It also includes pulses, grains and nuts, but also fresh meat, fish, milk and cheese. And all preferably seasoned with fresh herbs.
How did clean eating make its way into the foodboost program?
When developing the foodboost program, we started by interviewing our guests. Because we wanted to know exactly what their requirements were and what they thought was particularly important. One central aspect was mentioned frequently in the interviews: The desire for clean eating, or 100% natural ingredients. They wanted natural food – unprocessed, natural ingredients without additives such as artificial flavoring or preservatives.
Why do people value natural food so highly?
Some people are intolerant to artificial additives or simply feel better when they eat food that has been freshly cooked from natural ingredients. There is a growing awareness of how you treat your body and of the food you put into it. And needless to say, this fresh cuisine is rich in vitamins, minerals and other bioactive substances.
What part does flavor play in clean eating?
Our chefs are experts when it comes to flavor. They develop the clean eating recipes and guarantee their deliciousness. To ensure the dishes have the correct nutritional composition, our nutritionists provide their expert input. It’s teamwork at its best. In the end, flavor is the crucial factor. Because only tasty dishes that are well received by our guests have a chance. That’s why we consult guests in selected restaurants to see if they like the new recipes.
